Siddhartha was brought up like a prince and was kept ignorant about the prophesizes about him so as to not let him become a holy man but rather a great king. But as Siddhartha realized the hidden harsh realities of life the desire to know the truth lit bright within him. He left his pleasures, his wife and child to find an end to human sufferings.
There were many Buddhas during the time of Gautama but he was the only one to who was able to really figure it out.
